Track: The Pretty Reckless Announce Their Most Vulnerable Album Yet

The Pretty Reckless are pushing deeper into the shadows on new single Dear God, the title track from their forthcoming fifth album, due June 26 via Fearless Records. Led by Taylor Momsen’s towering vocal performance, the track trades arena-sized swagger for something more bruised and exposed, building slowly from desperation into a spiralling guitar climax.

“Dear God is desperation set to music,” Momsen explains, describing the song as existing in the brutal space “between heaven and hell”. That tension runs through the track. The verses move with a slow-burning heaviness before opening into a chorus that sounds simultaneously pleading and defiant, with Momsen repeatedly asking to be “lifted higher” and pulled clear of the fire consuming everything below.

It continues a striking run for the band ahead of the album’s release. Previous single For I Am Death became the group’s eighth Billboard Mainstream Rock number one, while When I Wake Up has continued climbing rock radio charts following its release earlier this year. Last month’s Love Me pushed further into abrasive territory, but Dear God feels different again: less confrontational, more haunted.

The album arrives after a relentless period for the band that has seen them spend two years touring globally alongside AC/DC on the PWR UP Tour while continuing to cement their place as one of modern rock’s most commercially successful heavy bands. Since breaking through with Light Me Up, The Pretty Reckless have carved out a rare space where radio-ready hooks coexist with genuine heaviness, making history as the first female-fronted rock band to score seven number one singles on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.

Their recent momentum has stretched beyond the studio. Momsen appeared at the 2026 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala honouring Mariah Carey alongside Foo Fighters, while also performing with Soundgarden during the band’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction celebrations. Even their 2025 holiday EP, led by a reworked version of Where Are You Christmas?, found unexpected chart success.
